The Guyana Elections Commission is urging citizens to be alert and not divulge personal information to people visiting their homes under the pretext of seeking information as GECOM representatives.
A release yesterday from the GECOM Public Relations Officer, Yolanda Ward is advising citizens that “the Commission is not engaged in any such field exercise and is therefore urging citizens to be extremely cautious and not to provide any information to those persons as their motive is unknown and can be potentially harmful.”
The release said that several people from Regions Two (Pomeroon/ Supenaam), Three (West Demerara/ Essequibo Islands), Four (Demerara/ Mahaica), Five (West Berbice) and Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) in particular, contacted the GECOM Secretariat to find out about “the nature of the exercise after being visited by people purportedly from the commission.”
For clarification, citizens are asked to contact the Public Relations Officer on 223-9653.
