Given the tragic record of defective performers in the position of Town Clerk of the Mayor and City Council over the last two decades, care should be taken about the next appointment.
The process obviously should be the responsibility of the Local Government Commission. The latter should invite a professional or group of professionals to manage the procedure – from crafting the job description with the appropriate requirements to be advertised, organisation of the shortlisting for the approval of the Commission; and then the conduct of the interviews and making of recommendations for selection or otherwise.
The exercise must involve full transparency.
