The Berbice Cricket Board yesterday announced its 14-member squad to represent the county while six of its players were selected to be part of the Guyana Select U19 side for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board senior female Inter-County tournament.
The 50-overs tournament, which is expected be played on February 2, 3 and 5, will see the defending champions retaining a core of their squad from last year including 20-year-old all-rounder Sheneta Grimmond who has recovered from injury and was recently part of the West Indies training camp.
The squad will feature Subrina Munroe and Tremayne Smartt who have both represented the West Indies before along with national players, Erva Giddings, Plaffiana Millington and Meliane Henry while Dian Prahald and Sherica Campbelle who were listed as stand-by last year for the national side will look to make their case even stronger this season.
Also in the squad are former national U19 players, Russhanna Lynch, Aleema Arokium and Mariam Samaroo who, like most of the squad, participated in a three-team Nand Persaud-sponsored female tournament which resulted in a selection of players that began preparation for the Inter-County tournament.
With the absence of Shemaine Campbelle who is with the West Indies female team in Pakistan, it is expected that 33-year-old Smartt will take up the responsibilities as captain as she did last season. Meanwhile, national U19 captain Shabika Gajnabi, who was part of the West Indies training camp along with Grimmond has been listed in the Guyana Select Under-19 team which also features Lafona Gilegous and Uma Matadin who both featured before as well as Niveena Ramnauth, Reneka Liverpool and Ameera Adram all of whom were spotted in the Guyana Cricket Board female under-17 franchise tournament held in November last year.
