Jewellery and pawn shop owner Freeman Fordyce was yesterday found guilty of the offence of unlawful possession of a pistol and ammunition and he is to be sentenced today.
Fordyce, a father of 7 children, had pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read to him on May 8th, 2017 by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The charge stated that on May 5th, 2017 at George and Princes streets, Werk-en-Rust, he had a 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol and 15 live rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence at the time.
Following a trial that was conducted by Magistrate Faith McGusty, he was found guilty of the two offences. However, he was remanded until today for sentencing.
Fordyce also has three other charges, for alleged disorderly behaviour, the alleged assault of a police officer and the alleged use of abusive language, before the court.
