West Demerara champion FC Eagles earned their finals berth in the Frank Watson Memorial National U-15 Intra-Association Football Playoff, downing Upper Demerara winner Milerock and East Bank Demerara champs Timehri Panthers yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
FC Eagles defeated Milerock 3-2 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 2-2 in their second matchup.
Prior to the penalty shoot-out, Telbert Baptiste tallied a double in the 11th and 30thfor Eagles while Travis James and George Stephens netted in the 55th and 60thminute respectively for Milerock.
In their previous encounter, FC Eagles edged Timehri Panthers 2-1. Baptiste and Jomaley Kellman tallied goals in the 11th and 20th minute. For the losers, Tyrone Burnett netted in the 54th minute.
On Saturday, Santos secured their finals berth, defeating Berbice champion and East Coast Demerara winner Corriverton Lynx and Beterverwagting [BV]/Triumph respectively.
Under overcast conditions which featured intermittent rain at the same venue, the Georgetown champions defeated Corriverton Lynx 3-0 after both teams secured similar wins over BV/Triumph.
Raymond Bandhu opened the scoring in the first minute, before S. Fraser made it 2-0 as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 18th minute.
The score line was then sealed two minutes onward as Miguel Stoll made his presence felt. With the result, Santos sealed their place in the final round of the National Playoffs on February 16th.
In the earlier group matches, Santos downed the East Coast Demerara side 2-0. Kevin Mullin and Stoll found the back of the net in the seventh and 34th minute respectively.
On the other hand, Corriverton Lynx bested BV/Triumph 3-1. Michael Cumberbatch, Alfred Dominic and Fenny Adrian scored in the seventh, 45th and 60th minute respectively.
For the losers, Roydon Chapman netted in the 35th minute. The event continues on February 9th at the Anna Regina Community Center.
The competing teams are Dartmouth Dominators [Essequibo/Pomeroon FA], Rising Stars [Bartica FA] and Atkinson Brothers [Region #1].
The winner of each cluster will advance to the final playoff. Tabatinga FC has been afforded a bye to the final playoffs.
