Strike Team, Big Ballers, Mature Ballers, Ballers Empire, Hot Skull and One-n-Move secured contrasting wins, when the 2nd Annual Mocha Village Cup Street-ball Championship resumed at the Mocha Arcadia Community Centre.
Witnessed by a large and vocal gathering, tournament favourite Strike Team outflanked Upsetters 2-1. Jermin Junior and Devon Charles found the back of the net in the fifth and ninth minute each.
For the loser, Elijah Bagot netted in the 15th minute. Big Ballers mauled Top Form by a 4-1 scoreline. Eon Mars led the rout with a double in the seventh and 13th minute, while Rolex Smith and Eon Cameron scored in the fifth and 14th minute apiece.
On the other side, Kester Stewart scored in the 12th minute. Similarly, Ballers Empire crushed Front-side Warriors 4-0. Kurt Rohee tallied two goals in the seventh an 13th minute.
Chipping in with conversions in the 15th and 19th minute were Seon Alfred and Quincy DosSantos correspondingly.
Likewise, Hot Skull trounced Cricketers 3-0. Mark Phillips recorded a double in the lopsided contest, with Egbert Nedd adding to the score in the third minute.
Conversely, Mature Ballers needled Hard-Ball 1-0. An 18th minute conversion secured the victory for the experienced unit. Also, One-n-Move edged Dream Team 2-0 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended scoreless. In other results, 6-Stars defeated Overseas Based Guyanese 1-0. Dennis Grant scored in the seventh minute to secure the result. Hard-Ball recovered from their earlier upset loss to brush aside Upsetters 4-1.
Pernell Gordon registered a brace in the seventh and 12th minute, while Kester Glenn and Jermaine Gibbs scored in the third and fifth minute each. For the loser, Bagot etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 13th minute. The event which continues on Friday, features 16 teams battling for over $150,000 in prizes. Winner of the competition will pocket $100,000, with the runners-up slated to pocket $50,000.
On the other hand, the third and fourth placed sides will walk away with $25,000 and $10,000 respectively. The tournament continues at the same venue on Friday February 1st with another round of group matches.
