A Waramadong youth is now a remanded prisoner after being charged with shooting his brother with an arrow, leaving him hospitalised with life threatening injuries.
Young Williams, 25, was read the charge of attempting to murder his brother, Jamal Williams, yesterday in Georgetown.
The charge states that on January 26th, at Waramadong Village, Upper Mazaruni, with intent to commit murder, Young unlawfully wounded Jamal.
Young was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question the brothers were drinking at their mother’s home when Young threw a drink in her face. Seeing this, Jamal and another brother confronted him, resulting in a scuffle. The prosecutor added that Young left and returned with a bow and arrow and allegedly shot the complainant in the region of his chest.
The file in relation to the matter is incomplete given the current state of the complainant, Mansfield said.
The prosecutor objected to the accused being granted bail, citing the fact that his brother remains hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital and is in a serious condition.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who presided over the arraignment,
subsequently remanded the accused to prison and adjourned the matter until March 19th, when it is expected to be called at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
