A pump attendant was on Tuesday granted bail on a charge that he wounded a man who asked him for his change after he purchased beers on his behalf.
Paul Simon, 38, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the indictable charge to him.
It is alleged that on February 1st, at 111 Miles, Mahdia, Potaro River, Simon unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rahamand Moses with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause actual bodily harm.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that Simon and Moses are known to each other. He added that on the day in question, at about 7.30 pm, the complainant went to a bar in Mahdia, where he gave $5,000 to Simon to purchase beers. The court heard that Simon failed to return Moses’ change and when the man asked him about it, he became annoyed and dealt him a lash to his face, resulting in several injuries.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield noted that Moses suffered lacerations to the right side of his face.
There was no objection to bail being granted but the prosecutor asked that conditions be applied.
As a result, Simon was later granted his release on $170,000 bail and was ordered not to go within 50 feet of the complainant and to report every Friday at 8.30 am at the Mahdia Police Station.
The matter was then adjourned until April 16th.
