Dear Editor,
Please allow me, as a PPP/C supporter, to respond to Norman K. Browne’s letter `The hypocrisy and double standards of PPP supporters’ (SN, 6th February 2019).
While Norman K. Browne brands all PPP supporters as all alike with a broad sweep of his pen I assume the gentleman also sees all PNC supporters in the same light.
We PPP/C supporters know Guyana’s history well enough to understand that the PPP and PNC are locked in a battle for the hearts and minds of the Guyanese people regardless of the consequences.
Yes, we know of the PNC’s sordid past. We also know of what transpired during the democratically elected PPP/C’s 23 years in legitimate governance.
The PNC, after 28 years of power, wanted to get back into power at any cost. So, its strategy was to create instability in Guyana which worked in the past as it clearly did during the Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar years. The rest is history.
Some people focus on the good in people rather than focusing on the worst in humanity. When you focus your attention on the bad in people you will end up living a life of hatred.
Any objective observer can clearly see that the APNU+AFC Coalition came into government with a lot of goodwill. Yet, they squandered all this goodwill in less than four years in power. For Norman K. Browne to lambast PPP supporters begs the question as to why he does not do likewise to PNC supporters who continue to vote PNC. Why single out PPP supporters for his biased missive?
While I am not a continuous supporter of Bharrat Jagdeo or Donald Ramotar I will continue to support the PPP/C as I am sure hundreds of thousands of Guyanese do.
The PPP fought for Guyana’s independence, fought against the PNC Dictatorship, rebuilt Guyana economically (under continued assault from the PNC) and is now fighting to unseat the Coalition APNU+AFC (who are determined to cling to power at all cost).
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori
