At Windsor Park in Dominica, Alick Athanaze struck his third first class half-century as Windward Islands Volcanoes, responding to Leeward Islands Hurricanes’ 271, reached 225 for seven at the close of yesterday’s second day.
Veteran opener Devon Smith chipped in with 46, Test batsman Sunil Ambris got 41 while Kavem Hodge added 26.
Smith put on 42 for the second wicket with Hodge after Volcanoes slipped to 27 for one, and then put on a further 57 for the third wicket with Ambris.
When Volcanoes lost three wickets for 30 runs to be tottering on 156 for five, Athanaze stroked 53 in a 60-run, sixth wicket stand with Ray Jordan (25) to prop up the innings.
Seamer Sheno Berridge (3-38) and off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall (3-47) both took three wickets apiece.
Hurricanes had earlier lost their last five wickets for 42 runs after resuming on 229 for five.
Pacer Jordan (4-47) and left-arm spinner Larry Edward (4-73) both claimed four wickets apiece. (Cananews)
