A security guard who intervened in an altercation between two brothers was yesterday morning taken into police custody and is assisting with investigations after he allegedly shot one of the men who was reportedly attempting to attack him at the Meadowbank wharf.
Crime Chief Lyndon Alves said the shooting occurred at around 5:45 am. He revealed that from preliminary information gathered, the shooting occurred following an altercation between two persons.
The name of the injured person was not revealed. However, Alves stated that the man was shot twice in his left foot.
When Stabroek News visited the wharf, a group of men were present discussing what had transpired earlier in the day.
They related that there was an altercation between two brothers and the security guard attached to Delta Security Service fired a warning shot. The argument, the men said, started on Saturday morning and continued yesterday.
Stabroek News was told that one of the brothers turned his attention to the guard and attempted to injure him with a knife. The guard fended off his attacker but the man reportedly still attempted to injure him and it was at this point that he was shot in his foot.
The men reported that approximately three to four shots were fired.
The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by an ambulance. He remains a patient there.
