Paul Charles, the miner who is accused of fatally stabbing another man at Falmouth Village, Essequibo River last Thursday, was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with murder.
It is alleged that Charles, 33, of Falmouth Village, Essequibo, murdered Cedric James.
In a press release issued after the murder, police gave the name of the deceased as Cedric Williams.
Charles was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge, which was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the post-mortem report remains outstanding. Charles was later remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until February 21st, when it is to be called at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
The now deceased man was allegedly stabbed once to his neck during an altercation, which occurred around 12.10 am last Thursday. He was subsequently rushed to the Bartica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
