Guyanese woman among Venezuelan nationals arrested at bars in Trinidad over weekend

(Trinidad Express) Most of the Venezuelan women detained by police at bars on Friday in Penal have been released from custody.

Of the 18 Venezuelan women held, three of them remain at police stations.

However all 13 of the Venezuelan men remain detained.

A Guyanese woman is also still in custody.

Police said a total of 32 immigrants were detained during an exercise carried out by officers from Penal CID, South Western Division Task Force and Immigration Division on the exercise.

Insp Nemai, Sgt Gookool, Sgt Persad and Cpl Rajkumar led the officers on the exercise which saw the arrest of eight men were held at a house in Suchit Trace, and the women at various bars at Penal Rock Road and Clarke Road.

Of the persons arrested, 31 are nationals of Venezuela.

One was a female national of Guyana.

Police said immigration officials gave notices for the 15 women who were allowed to leave.

The men and women who remain in custody are being held at the Santa Flora, Erin, Fyzabad and Siparia stations.

They are to be interviewed by Immigration officials on Monday.
