TSC, MSC, GCC, DCC chalk up wins

The latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafoods Generation Next Under-19 100-overs-a-side tournament saw Jeffrey Blair, Riyad Latif, Dequan Bamfield, Ntini Permaul, Andrew Samaroo, and Darius Andrews recording impressive performances. 

Blair, on Saturday, struck an unbeaten 103 batting at number 10 to lead Transport Sports Club (TSC) past Eco Champs by 170 runs at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ground. 

TSC batted first and posted 288-8 from 47 overs with Blair slamming 10 fours and nine sixes. He got support from Jamal Michael (34) and national U19 batsman Adrian Hinds (31). 

DCC’s Dequan Bamfield had another impressive outing for the Queenstown club

Sameer Hussein (4-34) was the pick of the bowlers for Eco Champs who were bundled out for 118 in 31 overs as 11-year-old leg-spinner Latif snatched 5-28 to secure TSC’s heavy triumph.  

Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) defeated Bel Air Rubis by two wickets at Ogle. Bel Air, batting first, were rattled by seamer Ntini Permaul (5-16) and dismissed for 61 in 29 overs. 

MSC, in response, scrambled home at 64-8 with Andrew Samaroo (6-20) nearly spinning the host to victory. 

The other match on Saturday was another low-scoring encounter with the host Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeating MYO by eight wickets. 

MYO were reduced to 77-8 from 28 overs as Darius Andrews (5-18) registered the fourth five-wicket haul on Saturday. 

GCC, in reply, cantered home with eight wickets in hand, reaching 78 – 2 inside 14 overs. Rivaldo Phillip top scored with an unbeaten31.  

Meanwhile, Sunday’s encounter saw the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeating the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) by five wickets at DCC.   GNIC, batting first, fell for 61. Only Trevon Jones (23) reached double figures as seamers Bamfield (5-15) and Qumar Torrington (3-14) shared eight wickets between them. 

DCC, in reply, survived a few scares before reaching 62 for five to complete the win. Alphius Bookie was unbeaten on 22 at the end while national youth player Dwayne Dick took two of the wickets to fall.
