East Bank Demerara romped to their second victory of the 2019 Demerara Cricket Board Inter-Association, Under-15 tournament with a 95-run defeat of West Demerara at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road yesterday.
Rain once again forced the match to be reduced to a 42-overs-a-side affair with East Bank winning the toss and electing to bat.
The table-toppers notched up 149 before being dismissed in 35.1 overs. They then limited the defending champions to 55 all out in 18.1 overs.
The star-studded East Bank unit was jolted early on as left-arm seamer, Renaldo Hussain, uprooted the stumps of Bhaskar Shamlall without a run on the board.
However, national Under-15 players Thaddeus Lovell and Zachary Jodah repaired the innings with a solid 94-run partnership in 11 overs.
The pair took the fight to the bowlers, racing to 75-1 after seven overs. One over from Vimal Persaud was especially expensive with 25 runs coming off it.
Lovell was the more aggressive batsman, stroking 11 boundaries before being caught at mid wicket off the first delivery after the drinks break.
He made 60.
Jodah’s composed innings of 25 was laced with three boundaries but he misread a delivery from off-spinner, Sachin Balgobin that rocketed into the stumps.
Joash Charles, after being dropped on 11 was the only other batsman that managed double figures, scoring 16 with three boundaries.
East Bank lost wickets quickly including that of West Indies Under-16 batsman, Mavindra Dindyal for just two as West Demerara clawed their way back into the match.
West Demerara’s captain, Nityanand Mathura brushed aside the lower order to take 4-14 from eight overs. He was supported by Balgobin who claimed 3-15 and Rezekiel Renee with 2-27.
In reply, West Demerara’s openers fended off the East Bank quicks with watchful strokes until Mathura was given leg before wicket to Charles who also accounted for Alex Parag who top scored with 11.
Only six batsmen managed to score a run as Jodah snatched 3-7 with his left arm spin along with contributions from Dhanesh Persaud (2-7) and Charles (2-14).
