Georgetown toil for seven-wicket win over East Coast

Georgetown laboured to a seven-wicket win over East Coast Demerara in the Demerara Cricket Board’s, Inter-Association, Under-15 tournament yesterday at the Lusignan Community Center ground, East Coast Demerara.

East Coast took first strike and were bundled out for 93 in 44.3 overs.

Georgetown, in their reply, toiled for their runs, eventually reaching 94-3 in the 44th over.

Fast bowler, Avinash Rajkumar accounted for the two openers cheaply while 11-year-old leg-spinner, Riyad Latif continued his fine form with the ball to dismiss Omar Lallbachan and Keon Sewsankar and  condemning East Coast to 45-4 in the 20th over.

Shiv Singh looked steady while wickets tumbled all around him but eventually he had his stumps dismantled by off-spinner, Krsna Singh for 16. Number eight batsman, Nirojan Etwaroo was the only other batsman to reach double figures. He was left stranded on the top score of 17.

Krsna Singh led the bowling with 2-7 from nine overs and was supported by Latif (2-13), Rajkumar (2-22) and Shaylion Walters (2-22).

In reply, Georgetown were made to work hard for their runs, losing three crucial wickets along the way but the total was never enough and Jordon Campbell’s top score of 29 paved the way for skipper, Alvin Mohabir come and finish the job with an unbeaten 21.

Georgetown will battle East Bank tomorrow at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road with the winner lifting the title after both teams are so far unbeaten in the tournament.
