Swift action by Corentyne lawmen yesterday afternoon led to the arrest of two men suspected to have robbed and injured a Chinese national who operates a window store located in Springlands, Upper Corentyne.
According to information gathered, several perpetrators pounced on the Chinese national sometime after 2 pm. Stabroek News was told that during the robbery, the bandits assaulted the businessman about his body and struck him in his face with what appeared to be a hammer. He was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital and has since been transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where his condition is listed as stable.
Stabroek News was told that after police in Sub Division Two received the report of a robbery, a roadblock was immediately set up at Number 51 Village, Corentyne, which led to the arrest of one of the alleged perpetrators who hails from Georgetown.
A police source said they were able to arrest the man based on the description given of the motor car which the bandits escaped in along with the description of the driver.
The suspect was arrested driving a heavily tinted white Toyota Premio bearing licence plate number PSS 8991. According to information gathered, the car was seen parked a short distance away from the window store several hours before the attack.
