East Coast Demerara registered a consolation three-wicket victory over West Demerara in the final round of the Demerara Cricket Board Under-15 Inter-Association tournament yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
East Coast won the toss and elected to bowl and restricted West Demerara to 80-9 from their full quota of 50 overs.
They then returned to reach 81-7 in 41.4 overs.
Some 42 extras accounted for the bulk of West Demerara’s runs and only Rezekiel Renee managed double figures with 10 before being bowled by Josh Alves.
Nicholas Sewpersaud was the main threat with the ball, taking 5-27 from his 10 overs while Alves finished with 2-9 from his spell of 10 overs.
In reply, East Coast were once again dependent on skipper, Omari Lallbachan who steered his team over the line with a composed innings of 26 not out which included a solitary boundary.
Extras accounted for 36 runs while Anthony Khan’s 10 was the only other double figure score.
Sachin Balgobin looked to bring West Demerara back in the contest with a brave spell of 5-13 from 9.4 overs. Renee was consistent with his length to finish with 1-9 from seven overs.
