Georgetown claimed the 2019 Demerara Cricket Board Under-15 Inter-Association title with a 10-wicket win over East Bank Demerara at Everest Cricket Club, Camp Road yesterday.
The newly-crowned champions won the toss and sent East Bank in to bat and they were duly bundled out for 78 in 29.4 overs.
Georgetown, in reply, reached 80 without loss in 22.3 overs.
Despite a 20-minute rain interruption, West Indies Under-16 batsman, Mavendra Dindyal, played the lone hand for East Bank with 46. His innings was laced with seven fours and a lone six over mid-wicket.
However, he was caught by wicket-keeper Jonathan Van Lange after attempting to sweep leg-break bowler, Riyad Latif only to get a top edge.
Dindyal shared in a 30-run stand for the fourth wicket with Joash Charles, who was stumped for two.
No other batsman reached double figures with number 10 batsman Tularam Chintamani left stranded on six, hitting a solitary boundary.
Off-spinner, Shaquan Walters ripped through the lower order to claim three wickets for a single run in 2.4 overs.
He was supported by fellow off-spinner, Krsna Singh with 2-10 and seamer, Avinash Rajkumar with 2-20.
In the chase, East Bank made use of three dropped catches to coast to the target with Jaden Campbell stroking five boundaries on his way to an unbeaten 35. Romeo Deonarain was solid during his innings with 26 not out, striking three boundaries, the last of which was hooked into square leg to seal the deal.
Georgetown was rewarded with juices from the ever-present Norman “Juice Man” Welch who was proud to see the competition between the two sides.
Successful captain, Alvin Mohabir said things went according to plan with their bowlers doing the job early on.
He pointed out that the wicket of Dindyal was the turning point of the game.
Meanwhile, Dindyal said that the batting did not click having folded for such a low total. The losing captain acknowledged that had they won the toss they would have batted still and looked to post around 150.
Guyana Cricket Board Territorial Development Officer, Colin Stuart encouraged the youngsters to continue to work hard noting that this provided a tournament for those with talent to be seen and earn a spot on the Demerara side as well as the President’s XI.
