Family will engage Big Ballers while One-n-Move tackles Dream Team in the semi-final round of the 2nd Annual Mocha Village Cup Street-ball Championship today, following quarterfinal wins at the Mocha Arcadia Community Centre.
Witnessed by a sizable crowd, Family secured the biggest upset victory of the tournament, squeaking past Strike Team by a 2-1 scoreline. Shamar Jones was the hero for Family compliments of a timely double.
Jones handed his side the unexpected lead via a 14th minute conversion. He then made his presence felt once more, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 23rd minute.
Jermaine Junior recorded a consolation goal for the loser s in the 29th minute. They will now match skills with Big Ballers, who defeated Hard-Ball 3-2 on penalty kicks, following a scoreless regulation time interval.
On the other hand, One-n-Move downed Baller Empire 2-0 in their quarterfinal matchup. Orville Stewart broke the deadlock compliments of a 12th minute effort, before Shaka Blue found the back of the net in the 28th minute.
Their opponent Dream Team, battled past 6-Stars 3-2. The experienced Delon John tallied a brace in the sixth and 18th minute for the victor, with Dorville Stewart adding a solitary goal in the 21st minute.
For the loser, Mervin Squires recorded a brace in the seventh and 23rd minute.
Meanwhile, Big Ballers defeated Church Boys 2-1 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended scoreless in their playoff encounter.
The victors of the respective semi-final matches will advance to the final with the losing semi-finalists battling in the third place playoff.
Winner of the competition will pocket $100,000, with the runners-up slated to pocket $50,000.
On the other hand, the third and fourth placed sides will walk away with $25,000 and $10,000 respectively.
