Unbeaten super middleweight Lennox ‘2 Sharp’ Allen (22-0-1, 14 KOs) scored a convincing 10-round unanimous victory over Derrick ‘Take it to the Bank ’Webster (28-2, 14 KOs) to claim the WBA Gold belt on Friday night.
The Brooklyn, New York based southpaw dropped his opponent in the third round en route to an impressive 98-9 x2, 97-92 verdict at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, Minnesota.
According ‘2 Sharpe’s camp, he was the busier and more accurate puncher and was able to improve his unblemished record with a polished performance. With the loss, Webster, 36, who was a late entry into boxing at the age of 24, suffered just the second loss of his career.
The road to a world title shot just got a bit smoother for Allen following the win.
He told this publication yesterday that “I have a title now, so I can call some shots,
and in another week or so I will sit with my management team and plan our next step.”
Before the fight, Webster was ranked one place above Allen at eight but the new champ stated that he knew along he could win against the best in the world.
“To be honest on a scale from one to 10, I feel I did a solid seven, I feel there’s a lot more in me. I always felt like I can beat the guys in the top 10 but the opportunity never presented itself, but now the sky is the limit, I’m willing to fight anybody.”
Allen who has been relatively inactive the past three years, disclosed that he is gunning to return to the ring perhaps in June.
He also disclosed that he will be returning to Guyana to celebrate “either Thursday or Friday.”
