Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) registered an eight-wicket victory over the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Select Under-17 XI at GCC, yesterday.
GCA won the toss and opted to bat first but were restricted to just 93 in 38.3 overs.
GCC, in reply, raced to 94-2 in 23.3 overs.
Jeffrey Blair coming in at number nine propelled GCA to a total worth competing for with a top score of 21 with a lone six and four. Alvin Mohabir supported with 15 while Matthew Jupiter was the only other batsman with another double figure score.
Left arm spinner, Zachary Jodah took 3-23 from his nine overs while Yohance Angoy and S. Basdeo chipped in with two wickets each.
In reply, West Indies under-16 batsman, Mavendra Dindyal stroked an unbeaten 47, laced with six boundaries to steer his side over the paltry target.
Dindyal was supported by Rivaldo Phillips with 10 not out while extras accounted for 16 runs.
Speaking at the presentation, GCA President, Roger Harper congratulated the youths for their hard work throughout the tournament and recommended that they continue to work hard as they aim to one day play for the West Indies.
Meanwhile the sponsors suggested that the children remain grounded to the sport and continue to excel with their desires in cricket.
