Everest Cricket Club (ECC) completed another impressive performance in the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division 40-overs tournament by defeating the University of Guyana at home.

The day began with the students winning the toss and electing to bat, a decision they rued after they bundled out for 96 in 25.5 overs.

Former national left-arm spinner Javed Rasheed starred with the ball for the host by collecting figures of 3-12 from 6.5 overs. He received support from Raylex Payne (3-25) and off-spinner Richie Looknaught (2-37).

Suresh Dhanai cracked three fours in a top score of 23 for the students.

ECC, in response, were hardly bothered and raced to 97 without loss in 13.5 overs. Skipper Dwayne Adams led the way with a no-nonsense unbeaten innings of 53, with six fours and two sixes while his opening partner Ronaldo Renee (35) played the supporting role.

Everest is now through to the semi-finals while UG will play the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) today in what might turn out to be an exciting dead rubber.
