The GCC Hockey Club yesterday registered three crucial wins in the ongoing Guyana Hockey Board’s (GHB) First Division Outdoor League at the Saints Ground.
GBTI GCC, in the Women’s Woodpecker Products category, whipped the Woodpecker Hikers 9-1 in the opening match.
The experienced Sonia Jardine held the key for the GCC ladies as she struck four goals past the upright while Marzana Fiedtkou was equally as impressive as she converted a hat-trick in the win.
The other goals came from Dacia Woodroofe, who recorded the opening goal and Carina Moller, while Nicolette Fernandes netted the lone strike for the losers.
The second match of the day yielded a similar result as Bounty GCC trounced SuperNova 8-0.
Kevin Spence and the in-form Meshach Sargeant were menacing and both converted hat-ticks while Alan Fernandes and Mark Sargeant accounted for the other goals.
Meanwhile, GCC Vintage in the final match of the afternoon, came from behind to defeat Saints 3-2 to record the club’s third win of the day.
GCC trailed the match 2-1 for the majority of the contest before Lennox Carrol netted two goals within a minute of each other to hand his side the come-from-behind-win. The league continues today with more matches at the same venue.
