Dear Editor,
Now that the PPP has announced Irfaan Ali as its Presidential Candidate it is believed that the PPP cannot win over disaffected APNU+AFC supporters with Bharrat Jagdeo at the helm of the PPP.
The selection of Irfaan Ali is seen as Bharrat Jagdeo’s choice for a `Yes man’ to support his policies rather than Irfaan Ali being his own man who can stamp his authority on the PPP.
The end result is that the next General Election may be a closely contested election with the PPP even ceding ground to the APNU+AFC Coalition.
The problem is not the PPP per se; it is just that the APNU+AFC coalition won over disaffected PPP/C supporters during the May 2015 General Elections which the PPP will fail to do in the next General Election due by 19th March 2019.
Clearly, the PPP needs to break from the past and have a new fresh Leader who can rebuild the PPP into a formidable political party as the current PPP Leaders are seen as sycophants sucking up to Bharrat Jagdeo.
It does not matter that the APNU+AFC are quasi-dictators as they are seen as benevolent dictators and demigods by their supporters.
If the PPP/C, when in Government, had done what the APNU+AFC are doing to Guyanese there would have been social unrest.
Guyanese are still not protesting at the undemocratic and diabolical acts of the APNU+AFC coalition as they believe that the Coalition will “come-good” and are willing to give them a second chance rather than to have Bharrat Jagdeo as puppet master.
Look at the facts, Guyanese cared more about parking meters rather than the undemocratic and diabolical acts of the APNU+AFC Coalition that is why they are not protesting for their rights.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori
