Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were charged with the murder of Rohan Persaud, the Grove, East Bank Demerara man who was found stabbed to death last week.
Hemant Gocool and Khemraj Persaud were not required to plead to the indictable charge that they murdered Persaud, called ‘Ravi,’ on February 13th, at Samatta Point Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Georgetown Magistrate Faith McGusty read the charge and prosecutor Dominic Bess subsequently informed the court that the file relating to the matter is incomplete.
The case is expected to be called again on March 12th.
The body of 52-year-old Persaud, of Tulip Street, was discovered through an alleyway just a few corners away from his home with his stomach split and his intestines protruding.
Persaud was well known in the area as he did odd jobs for his neighbours.
A resident, who identified herself as Ms. Bryce, looked after Persaud as his family members live abroad. She stated that on the afternoon before his body was found, he and two others went out. “He and two boy pass out heh 5.30, well dressed. This morning is one of me neighbour come and tell me Ravi deh through the track dead. Deh buss he belly but everybody see he and these two boy whole night. Apparently like deh kill he deh since last night (Tuesday night) and leff he deh,” she said.
Another resident said she saw Persaud passing her home twice on Tuesday night, along with two young men. “He pass here ’bout two time last night, he and the same boys, up and down they been. Me hear that one of the boys he went with send he home cause he been drunk but he didn’t go. This morning when I went out there, I see the body, how all he stomach outside,” the woman said.
