Magnum Mash semis on tonight

Defending champion Bent Street will oppose Back Circle while Sparta Boss will engage Gold is Money in the 2nd Annual NSC/Magnum Mash Futsal semi-finals tonight, following quarterfinal wins Thursday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

The two matches materialized following contrasting wins in front of a capacity crowd. Star-studded Bent Street dismantled Sophia 3-0 to send a stern warning to the field.

Sheldon Holder tallied a brace in the eighth and 19th minute after Job Caesar had opened the scoring in the seventh minute.

They will require an improved effort if they are to overcome Back Circle who edged Ansa McAl All-Stars 2-1 on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time failed to break the 1-1 deadlock.

Prior to the penalty shoot-out, Selwyn Williams handed Back Circle the lead in the seventh minute only for Akin Curry to equalise in the 20th minute.

Both teams remain unbeaten in the competition with Back Circle possessing a perfect record following  victories over North East La Penitence, BV-B, Good-Life, and North Ruimveldt.

Bent Street has defeated Avocado Ballers, Kingston and Stabroek Ballers with their only blemish coming in a scoreless draw against Melanie.

Meanwhile, Gold is Money mauled Tiger Bay 4-1. Colin Nelson bagged a double in the 16th and 19th minute while Randolph Wagner and Hubert Pedro scored in the 15th and 23rd minute respectively.

For Tiger Bay, Deon Alfred netted in the 21st minute. This was the fourth win for the West Ruimveldt outfit, following victories against Stabroek Ballers, California Square and Melanie.

The only blip on their resume resulted from a 0-1 surprise loss to Linden unit Capital Strikers. Since then, Gold is Money have been on a mission and will need to be at their utmost best to defeat Sparta Boss.

The Spartans downed Future Stars 2-0 in their previous fixture and will enter the contest brimming with confidence as they aim to secure another final’s appearance.

Jermin Junior and Sheldon Shepherd found the back of the net in the seventh and 19th minute correspondingly.

Their record in the event has mirrored Bent Street’s with wins over Mocha, North Ruimveldt, and North East la Penitence sandwiched between a scoreless draw with Gaza Squad.

Winner of the tournament will pocket $600,000, with the second and third place receiving $350,000 and $200,000 respectively.

The fourth place side will collect $100,000.
