Former National Table Tennis champion, Colin France rewound the clock last evening to capture championship honours in the Handicap category of this year’s Forbes Burnham Memorial Table Tennis competition at the National Gymnasium in Georgetown.
France, who in the final began the match with a -4 handicap, defeated Roger Mc Clenon in straight sets: 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 to capture the 2019 crown.
Earlier, the eventual champion was tested by Devon Richmond in the semi-finals which went the distance with France taking the match 3-2, after surging his way back from a 1-2 deficit. The scores in that match read 9-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7.
Mc Clenon, on the other hand, defeated Remy Taitt 14-12, 8-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8 to set up the final with France. Meanwhile, the competition will conclude on Friday with the conclusion of the ‘C’ class, ‘B’ class and under – 21 categories which reached the round of 16 before the curtains came down last evening.
