Annandale defeated Mon Repos by 23 runs to win their maiden Lusignan Sports Club Ram Slam title when the fifth edition was completed on Sunday at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground.
An estimated 1000 patrons saw Annandale winning the toss and taking first strike, piling up 132-3 from their allotted 15 overs.
They then restricted Mon Repos to 109-9 in their quota.
Annandale lost Davanand Samaroo who failed to score in the first over but Shazam Ali and Most Valuable Player, Tamesh Motiram , assaulted the Mon Repos bowlers in racing to an 80-run partnership.
Both batsman were dropped once.
Motiram capitalized fully on the reprieve to top score with 43 from 32 balls consisting of two fours and two sixes while Ali, after a slow start scored a 29-ball 35 before he was stumped.
Despite losing the two set batsman in the same over, Gavin Boodwah and Rajpaul Basdeo propelled their side to a relatively high total with unbeaten knocks of 21 and 26 coming from seven and nine balls respectively.
Azad Mohammed picked up 2-16 while Navin Persaud’s three overs went for 43 runs. In reply, Mohammed returned to smash four sixes on his way to 34 with support coming from Jason Heyliger (10) and Surujpal Deosarran (11).
Motiram returned to take 2-16 while Ferron Kadir (2-13) and Basdeo (2-18) got among the wickets.
Earlier in the day, Mon Repos defeated Lusignan by four wickets. Lusignan batted first and posted 120-5 with Robin Williams and Krishna Deosarran adding 57 for the opening partnership. Williams smashed four sixes and one four during his innings of 31 while Deosarran top scored with 43, bashing three sixes and three fours. Kampta Persaud chipped in with 23 not out.
Mon Repos’ top order however executed their plan well with S. Sookdeo (22) and Somnauth Bharrat (27) adding 46 for the first wicket. Heyliger made a brisk 23 while Surujpal Deosarran steered them over the line with an unbeaten 17.
Kampta Persaud and Roy Singh picked up two wickets each.
Annandale had earlier defeated Good Hope by seven wickets after restricting Good Hope to 101-6 and returning to score 102-3 in 14.3 overs.
Good Hope got over the hundred-run mark with V. Ramjeet scoring 23 with N. Hira and S. Alick adding 17 runs each.
Annadale raced to the total with Basdeo unbeaten on 32 and Boodwah scoring 22 not out. The pair shared in an unbroken 50-run partnership to see their side to victory.
