A mother of five was last evening stabbed to death in North Sophia and the suspect has since been arrested by the police.
Dead is Nadina Kalamadeen, 35, of North Sophia.
Kalamadeen was stabbed multiple times about her body and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident occurred around 8pm after which the suspect known as “Raymond” attempted to flee.
However, he was captured by residents of the area and handed over to the police.
While details surrounding the incident remain unclear up to press time, Stabroek News understands that Kalamadeen had been avoiding the suspect for sometime now.
Reports are that hours prior to her death, the suspect reportedly visited Kalamadeen’s home to meet her but after learning that she was sleeping, he became angry and left.
Chatterpaul Jagnarine, Kalamadeen’s stepfather, related to Stabroek News that the family is still trying to understand what might have led to her death.
Jagnarine said he was sitting on his verandah when he noticed Kalamadeen pass by. The suspect, he said, was walking behind her. “They didn’t arguing or nothing when they pass”, Jagnarine said.
Shortly after, he said he heard Kalamadeen screaming and the suspect running.
“I saw her (Kalamadeen) walking across heh earlier. She and the guy (the suspect) walking…..and I hear a noise. By time I come out heh, I see the guy running, passing back this side”, Jagnarine said.
He said before he could have ventured downstairs to check what had happened, he was told by residents of the area that Kalamadeen had been stabbed
Jagnarine said he only knows the suspect by seeing him around in the area.
He noted that the father of Kalamadeen’s children worked in the interior.
Residents in the area said the death of Kalamadeen has left them in deep shock while noting that she was a quiet individual.
