A former police prosecutor appeared in a city court yesterday for allegedly committing three counts of fraud by pretending he could get a firearm possession charge withdrawn.
It is alleged that on January 31st, 2017, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, former police prosecutor Kerry Bostwick, 34, with intent to defraud, obtained $100,000 from Tollecia Odle by falsely pretending that he was in a position to drop a firearm without licence charge against her brother, Tyrone Kennedy, knowing same to be false.
The second charge states that during the month of December, 2016, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, he obtained $100,000 from Maureen Kalli by falsely pretending that he was in a position to dismiss the charge against her brother, Tyrone Kennedy, knowing same to be false.
On January 19th, 2017 at East Ruimveldt, he is also accused of obtaining $100,000 from Oxcarine Handy by pretending that he was in a position to dismiss the charge against her son, Tyrone Kennedy.
Bostwick, who was represented by attorneys Bernard DaSilva, Adrian Thompson and George Thomas, denied the charges, which were read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.
According to the police’s case, Kennedy was charged for the unlawful possession of a firearm and Bostwick, who was the prosecutor in the case, told his relatives that he could have the magistrate dismiss the case if they paid him $300,000.
The court heard that on separate occasions, the victims met Bostwick and handed over the monies. However, they were unable to pay the full amount and Kennedy was still sentenced to prison and thus the victims proceeded to make a report to regain their monies.
Police prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objection to bail being granted to Bostwick, who was released on $150,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until March 22nd, 2019.
