Dear Editor,
Please refer to the letter captioned ‘East Ruimveldt Market is in dire need of upgrading’ published in the February 20, 2019 edition of your newspaper. The Georgetown Council is grateful for your comments in this regards.
The Georgetown Mayor City Council is concerned about the state of all of its markets and all other facilities. This is why in 2016, the Council commenced a process to rehabilitate all of its facilities, this included the Kitty Market, City Engineer’s Building, Sexton Building, City Constabulary Building and the Albouystown Health Centre.
This process continued in 2017 and 2018. During 2018 works were done at the East Ruimveldt Market. This included: erecting fences on the western and eastern sides of the market and rehabilitation of the sanitary block. In addition, repairs were done to both the Revenue Collection Office and the City Constabulary Outpost. The Council wants to reassure its legal tenants that high on the Council’s agenda is the repair of the main access road. Further, careful note has been taken of all the other concerns highlighted.
Yours faithfully,
Debra Lewis
