First-class bowlers Raun Johnson and Anthony Adams were in excellent bowling form at the weekend, bowling the Police Sports Club (PSC) to an eight-wicket season-opening win over the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) at the PSC ground in the GISE/Star Party Rental First-Division two-day cricket competition.
Police, after winning the toss and electing to bowl first on the freshly prepared surface, dismissed the visitors for 144 in 44.5 overs as Johnson captured 5-38 from 12 overs. The bustling seamer found support from left-arm spinner Anthony Adams (4-40) which reflected a tidy bowling effort by the duo.
Only Clarence Baird (32) and skipper Steven Jacobs (25) recorded any show of resistance. PSC, in their first innings response, earned a 70-run innings lead after they posted 214 before being dismissed in 42 overs. Half-centuries from Quintyn Sampson (60) and Kevon Boodie (50) led the charge for the lawmen as they saw off Nichosie Barker (3-57) and Steven Jacobs (2-55).
MSC, in their second innings response, ended the first day on 11-3 and were on Sunday eventually bundled out for a mere 99 with Adams (5-44) this time around, picking up a five-fer and ending the match with 9-84 while his demolition partner Johnson ended with 3-7 and a match haul of 8-45.
PSC, last year’s finalist, needing 30 runs for victory, reached their target for the loss of two wickets to complete the win.
