Presidential Guard, C-Division, A-Division-[A] and D-Division-[A] secured opening night victories in the Guyana Police Force [GPF] Inter-Division/Branch 5-a-side football championships Monday at the Eve Leary ground.
Presidential Guard downed Felix Austin-[A] 2-0. Kester Dundas and Steffon Ramsay recorded goals in the easy win while C-Division dismissed Transport 2-0.
Lerone Charles and Joel Chisolm were on target in the victory. Similarly, A-Division-[A] brushed aside Finance 2-0.
Meanwhile, D-Division-[A] squeaked past Sports 2-1 compliments of a double from Keon Duke. For the losers, Deon Rodney found the back of the net.
Also, TSU, F-Division-[A], Felix Austin-[B] and G-Division recorded hard-fought victories. TSU. battled past Band-Room 1-0. N. Gittens recorded the only goal of the night to secure the win.
F-Division-[A] needled A-Division-[B] by a 1-0 score via a Kevin Fraser conversion. Felix Austin-[B] defeated Traffic HQ 1-0. Kevin Abrams settled the outcome with a second half effort and G-Division overcame E-Division 1-0. The tournament continues today at the same venue with another round of group matches.
Winner of the event will pocket $100,000 and the championship trophy. The runner-up and third place finisher will pocket $50,000 and $25,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
The Best Dressed Team will also receive $10,000. On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player [MVP] will receive $10,000, with the Highest Goal Scorer also walking away with $10,000.
