McGill Super Stars and New Windsor secured their spots in the playoffs of the West Demerara Cricket Association/Agape Lumber Yard T20 knockout tournament on Sunday at Wales Community Center Ground.
In the first encounter McGill defeated All Youths Sports Club by 11 runs in a low-scoring thriller.
All Youths won the toss and invited the Canal-based Club to take first strike and they were restricted to 100-6 from their full quota of 20 overs. Shafiek Deen top scored with 26 while Keshram Seyhodan and Azar Deen chipped in with 19 each. Seyhodan stroked two fours and one six while Deen found the boundary ropes on two occasions.
All Youths bowling was consistent with Narendra Persaud picking up 2-20 from his four overs while Budhan Baksh and Dwayne Scott took one wicket each for 13 and 16 runs respectively from four overs.
In the chase, All Youths reached 89-8 from their allotted overs.
Baksh top scored with 24 a knock which contained a single four and a lone six. Jadesh Persaud was the only other batsman to show some stability with 23, with two boundaries.
Seyhodan was exceptional with the ball, picking up 4-10 from his four overs with Travis Persaud (2-28), Sudesh Persaud (1-11) and Deen (1-15), the other wicket takers.
In the second encounter, Belle Vue Sports Club batted first and were restricted to 117 all out while New Windsor reached 118-5 with five balls to spare.
Belle Vue were indebted to Colin Boucher who top scored with 44. He was the only batsman to reach double figures.
Vishnu Sew bagged 4-19 and Mahendra Jailall copped 3-8. Joel Garnet took 2-30.
Roger Henry anchored the chase with a solid 40, supported by Chris Rajpat (14). Safraz Baksh picked up 2-21.
The two teams will battle in the play off on Saturday at Wales with the winner facing Independence who has already cemented its place in Sunday’s final.
