Head Coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Mervyn Dillon said his side is on a mission to beat Guyana Jaguars when the two teams clash in the final round of the Cricket West Indies Regional Four-Day Championships from today at Providence.
Speaking to this publication prior to their final training session at the venue, Dillon was reluctant to share the mood in the camp stating that he “preferred not to give Guyana any secrets” but said the side is confident as always. Dillon bluntly said their sole intent this round is to beat Guyana.
Red Force has been scampering near the bottom of the table in fifth position with 85.6 points coming from eight matches while Jaguars are comfortably at the top of the table with 136 points.
Dillon said the day and night affair is a good experience for the players.
“A lot of night cricket is being played around the world and it is good we included it in our Four-Day tournament and I am sure the guys look forward to the challenge,” he declared.
The former fast bowler explained that the pitch was a bit of a surprise for him with a bit of grass on it but stated that his side is quite capable of adapting to whatever surface they get to play on.
Manager of the Red Force team, David Furlonge confirmed that no changes have been made to the Dinesh Ramdin-led 13-man squad that defeated Windward Islands Volcanoes in the last round.
However, Furlonge stated Ramdin, who was not at training, was expected to join the side last night.
Jeremy Solozano has done the bulk of the scoring for Red Force with 488 runs this season with Jason Mohamed (403) and Imran Khan (389) making vital contributions.
Khan has led from the front with his leg-break, taking 36 wickets to date, only behind Leeward Islands Hurricanes’ Rahkeem Cornwall with 49 and Jaguars’ Veerasammy Permaul with 39.
