PPP presidential candidate Irfaan Ali has been conducting outreaches in various parts of the country, according to Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo.
Responding to queries during a press conference yesterday, Jagdeo informed that Ali was in the Essequibo River for meetings in five communities. He did not name the communities.
Jagdeo added that following Wednesday’s meeting with government, Ali left for Essequibo.
“He is working, listening to people, and ensuring that their ideas become part of his policies for the future,” he said.
Jagdeo declined to say what Ali’s position is on the current state of the country. “I am not going to get into that. Our candidate is working on the ground, where it matters,” he said.
Ali was part of the Jagdeo’s team which met with President David Granger.
The former housing minister defeated former attorney general Anil Nandlall 24 to 11 via secret balloting. The other three candidates, Gail Teixeira, Vindhya Persaud and Frank Anthony, had withdrawn themselves from the selection process.
Ali has criminal charges before the courts regarding his allegedly involvement in the allocation and sale of land in the ‘Pradoville 2’ Housing Scheme and he has also been facing scrutiny over his academic credentials.
