Defending champions, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) is scenting a season-opening win in the 2019 GISE, Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall first division two-day competition against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The day began with the host DCC winning the toss and inserting GDF, who were bundled out for 110. Randy Lindore led the way with an innings of 69 inclusive of 11 fours and two sixes, adding some respectability to the total.
The army men were rocked by West Indies under – 19 spinner Ashmead Nedd, who grabbed 5-47, while his fellow left-arm spinner Totaram Bishun (3-22) played the supporting role.
DCC, in their first innings, powered their way to 235 all out, earning a lead of 125 runs. Opener Joshua Persaud cracked eight fours and five maximums in a fine knock of 71 while Sachin Singh (43) and Raymond Perez (32) gave away decent starts.
Lindore returned with the ball to take 4-44 while Leon Andrews grabbed 4-47.
GDF, in their second innings, were almost dismissed twice in a day as they ended the day on 154 for nine with Kurt Lovell (53) cracking a few lovely shots to hand his side a slim lead of 29 runs.
Bishun was in the wickets again, having so far taken 4-23 in GDF’s second innings while seamer Carlton Jacques sent down a few lively overs to end the day with figures of 4-44.
Meanwhile, over at the Police Sports Club ground, the host are locked in a battle with Everest.
Police batting first, were dismissed for 177 in 41.3 overs with Kemol Savory leading the way with 52.
Leg spinner Amir Khan (4-43) and off-spinner Richie Looknauth (3-56) spearheaded Everest’s bowling effort.
The visitors in their first innings, ended the day on 192 for six, with a lead of 15 runs. Ronaldo Renee (53) and Kamesh Yadram (43) were the chief contributors to the innings. Eon Rodrigues has so far taken three scalps for the host.
