An Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) pensioner last night succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident at the junction of Enmore Estate Road and Railway Embankment, ECD.
Dead is pedal cyclist Knorpaul Persaud, 78, of Lot 32 Enmore Pasture. Police last night said the accident occurred at around 4pm yesterday.
Investigations have revealed that motorcyclist Rudolph Vancooteen, 60, of Lot 115 Block 20 Enmore was riding motor cycle CH 5782 east along the northern side of the road. Persaud at the time, police said was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Estate road. At the junction, Persaud began to cross the road and ended up in the path of the motorcyclist and both fell onto the road.
The police said the men were picked up and rushed to the Dr. C. C. Nicholson Hospital at Nabaclis, ECD. Persaud was immediately admitted in an unconscious state and tended too. He, however died while receiving medical attention. The motorcyclist, police said was sent to the Georgetown Public Hospital for a CT scan.
Investigations are continuing.
