The South Essequibo Cricket Committee Round Robin T20 competition continued over the weekend with Rising Stars’ captain Latchman Rohit smashing a century to lead his side to a 170-run victory over Jaguars Over 40 while United Warriors defeated Top Shatter by four wickets in another fixture.
Playing in overcast conditions at the Pomona Cricket Ground, Rising Stars won the toss and batted first, posting 241-4 from their full quota. They then limited Jaguars to 71 all out in 12 overs.
Rohit, a former national youth player, played well on both sides of the wicket, hitting 13 fours and three sixes during his innings worth 106.
The captain was supported by all-rounder, Neil Bristol, who smacked five fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 45 as well as Darmindra Lackhan who finished on 27 not out with two fours and three sixes.
Azeem Kamal took 2-27 while Carl Brounish and Shazad Ally took one wicket each.
In reply, only Shivnarine Bassoon managed to reach double figures with 24, decorated with three boundaries while extras accounted for 14 runs.
Bristol returned to take 3-15 while Ottis Roberts (2-5), Christopher Latchman (2-10) and Lackhan (2-5) were also among the wickets.
In the second encounter, Top Shatter were limited to 110 all out from their allotted overs with Tameshwar Deonarine top scoring with 38 and Sherk Khan chipping in with 21. H. Doobay picked up 2-21.
In the chase, United Warriors reached their target of 111-6 with Sidney Richards top scoring with a compact 39 while Shaun Bouncher (19) and A. Narine (15) supported.
Top Shatter looked to pull the game back with Shazim Salim taking 3-20 and Deonarine returning to take 2-11 but the target was always within reach.
