Rising chess star Chelsea Juma has received sponsorship from De Sinco Trading through its Milex Brand to attend the upcoming CARIFTA chess tournament in Curacao from April 18-23.
According to FIDE, Juma is the number-one ranked U14 player in Guyana, a press release from the Guyana Chess Federation stated.
The St Stanislaus College student has been playing for approximately 19 months.
“DeSinco Trading/Milex is always looking for fresh local talent in sports to support and we are proud to support Chelsea Juma to attend the 8th CARIFTA Junior Chess Championships,” said Isha De Abreu of De Sinco Trading.
“I’m very thankful for such support and I’m aiming to do better than I did last year.” “I have been training very hard because I really wants to bring a medal back to my country and win for Guyana,” Juma said in response to the company’s support.
Her coach, Wendell Meusa, was appreciative of the gesture by De Sinco.
“First I would like to thank Ms. Isha Dabreu and DeSinco Trading/Milex for such kind gesture. It is such support that helps chess to develop locally, helps our children achieve their dreams and creates history for our country,” he declared.
Last year Juma, currently rated 1112 by FiDE, defeated five-time Guatemala national champion Julissa Figueroa then rated 1712 by FIDE.
