Two men were hauled before a city court yesterday to answer to separate rape and sexual assault charges.
Chandrapaul Mohabir, 46, was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and read two charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
He allegedly raped two girls, who were six and seven years old at the time of the offence.
The charges, which were similar in nature, alleged that the mechanic committed the acts between January 1st, 2017 and March 20th, 2018.
He was subsequently remanded to prison.
Meanwhile, Romel Harry, 50, of Lot 11 Soesdyke Back Road, was later read a charge which stated that on August 13th, 2018, at Supply, East Bank Demerara, he sexually assaulted a female by touching one of her breasts and touching her between her legs.
He was later granted his release on $100,000 bail on the conditions that he report to the Timehri Police Station every Friday at 8 am and that he not make any contact with the complainant.
Both matters are set to be called again on March 29th.
