Surinamese politician Chandrikapersad Santokhi has been invited to deliver the feature address at the Annual Dinner of Transparency International Guyana Inc (TIGI).
In a press statement yesterday TIGI explained that its annual dinner scheduled for tomorrow will see Santokhi who is the leader of the Progressive Reform Party of Suriname speaking on “building open, resilient and sustainable societies”, with the objective of making policies transparent and holding our leaders and people accountable.
“In his key-note presentation the speaker will address what needs to be done structurally to create such a society, but also, in the context of imminent wealth generation in the two countries, what needs to be done as an urgency in the short term,” TIGI stated.
Santokhi who served as Commissioner of Police in the neighbouring state has, according to TIGI a long and distinguished career and service nationally and internationally.
He served as Minister of Justice and Police in his country, following his a long career as Police Commissioner and was elected Chair of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) in 2010.
“Throughout his career, he has consistently fought against illegal drug trafficking in the hemisphere and in the Caribbean sub-region,” TIGI stressed adding that following his presentation Santokhi has agreed to respond to a few questions in relation to the topic.
TIGI’s annual dinner is major fund-raising activity which began in 2012. According to the organization this year’s dinner will see the new board of directors being presented to the public.
