Defending champions Barbados recorded another comfortable win in the ongoing Colonial Medical Insurance Women’s Super50 cup by brushing aside Jamaica by eight wickets at Bourda yesterday.
The win for the Bajans was orchestrated by skipper Hayley Matthews who cracked a magnificent century to complete the successful run chase; Barbados’ third win on the trot. Chasing 214 for victory, Barbados coasted to the target with Matthews cracking 108 inclusive of 14 fours and two maximums to spearhead the win.
The West Indian batting sensation received support from the inform Kycia Knight who contributed an unbeaten knock of 59 to complete the win while Deandra Dottin slammed two fours and the same number of maximums in an unbeaten knock of 23 to seal the deal.
Earlier, Jamaica after winning the toss and electing to bat, mustered a mere 214 for 6 from their full complement of overs. Skipper Stafanie Taylor fresh off of her match-winning century against host Guyana led from the front with a knock of 80 inclusive of four fours.
Taylor’s unusually sedate innings and the inability of the other batters to score freely were attributed to a fine combined bowling effort from Matthews (2-36), Shenika Bruce (2-32) and Shamilia Connell (2-34) who collectively snared six wickets between them to complete a tidy bowling effort. Barbados will next face Guyana on Saturday at the National Stadium Providence while Jamaica will come up against Trinidad and Tobago at Everest on the same day.
