The National female hockey team yesterday endured mixed returns on the opening day of the Field Hockey Canada (FHC) Invitational Indoor Hockey Tri-Nation series in Canada, which included a thrilling win over Kazakhstan at the University of Toronto’s Athletic Centre.
The Guyanese in the opening match defeated Kazakhstan, which is the highest ranked team in the series, 2-1 with both strikes for the Guyanese coming off the stick of journeywoman Trisha Woodroffe.
The Guyanese, however, went down to Canada Red 0-6 in their second encounter of the day to underline what was deemed a solid day one showing despite the defeat.
The South Americans will face Canada White today in their final group match before the semis.
