(Trinidad Express) Thirty-year-old Rachel Mohammed was ambushed and shot dead on Saturday night near her St Augustine home.
Her relatives, who were at the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday, said she was killed because a particular group was afraid that she would tell the police about their activities.
A post-mortem concluded Mohammed died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds about her body.
Around 11.20 p.m. on Saturday, Mohammed and her friend, Susan Ramkissoon, 43, were standing near Mohammed’s home at Dookiesingh Street, St Augustine, when a masked gunman approached them and opened fire.
The attacker ran south along Dookiesingh Street and got into a white station wagon, which sped off.
Mohammed underwent surgery but died around 10.10 a.m. on Sunday.
Mohammed’s relatives refused to give their names, saying they were afraid of some of the people she associated with.
A relative said that he often spoke with Mohammed’s father to “try and talk some sense into her because I know the life and I knew what some people are capable of and they were not nice people”.
He said the group Mohammed called friends would often carry out robberies and some of them even made social media videos of themselves brandishing guns.
