Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) romped to a six-wicket win over Malteenoes Sports Club on Sunday at the Eve Leary Ground in the Georgetown Cricket Association Noble House Seafoods Generation Next Under-19 tournament.
GCC won the toss and invited Malteenoes to bat who posted 200-9 in their 50 overs after the contest was reduced from a 55-45 over affair to 50-40 overs. GCC then replied with 201-4 in 37.4 overs.
Malteenoes were indebted to important cameos from the middle order including Akeem Critchlow and Shamar Yearwood who shared in a 54-run second wicket stand. Critchlow’s 33-ball 26 was foiled by a direct hit from Mavindra Dindyal while Yearwood’s patient knock of 21 from 57 balls ended when he was bowled by Dindyal.
Mervyn Permaul top scored with 27 that resisted an attacking GCC bowling side with Keon Wright snatching three quick wickets to bring his side back into the contest after Jeremiah Scott (24) had put on 52 for the fourth wicket with Permaul.
Wright ended with 3-54 while Rivaldo Phillips, Zachary Jodah and Dindyal returned one wicket a piece as GCC gifted Malteenoes five dropped catches.
In reply, an even half century from Thaddeous Lovell and 40 from his opening partner, Andsuegga Rodrigues got GCC off to a blistering start.
Rodrigues was the aggressor in the 86-run partnership, striking two sixes and three fours, one of which dissected the fielders through cover prior to him being dropped on 30.
After Rodrigues was snapped up by Scott off the bowling of Permaul, Lovell took his aggression to the spinners, using his feet well and chipping down the track to dispatch two sixes onto the pavilion off of Brandon Butchey.
Dindyal returned to stroke 28 before being given out leg before wicket attempting to sweep as Malteenoes fought their way back into the contest with two quick wickets but their fate was inevitably sealed with Carlos Pollard flicking Scott into the square leg boundary to finish the match.
