Fans were treated to an international style shootout when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) staged its highly successful Drag Racing Championships on Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit.
When the dust settled and the engines of the built for speed machines were cooled, the daredevils from Team Mohamed were the last men standing.
The familiar black GT-R, Goliath remained King of the strip.
In the unlimited final, the GTR driven by Terrance Cox overcame the S&D performance Rx7 in a close battle.
On the new quarter-mile strip, its fastest time was a supersonic 8.584s, while RX-7, owned by Peter Daby, clocked 8.907s.
The battle was the ultimate showdown between two cars which were recording the fastest times throughout the day.
Meanwhile, in perhaps the only disappointment of the day was the mechanical issues suffered by the newly acquired GT-R. The fans had showed up in droves to get a glimpse of it in action but it was only good for a solo run for photo opportunities.
In the Super-bike class, 1000cc and 600cc were dominated by Mark ‘Mad Max’ Menez.
In the 1000cc final, Menez came up against Veteran circuit racer Steven Vieira who had a bad launch and thus lost.

Meanwhile, the lengthening of the strip and the completion of the new launchpad were also pluses for the Club.
The pad now features a track-bite coated dual lane, a setup which local and internationally racers had been calling for and its installation has improved the standard of the sport.
