An Amelia’s Ward, Linden grandmother was on Sunday presented with a newly constructed, three-bedroom house, by Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.
June Allicock of Central Amelia’s Ward, who was left to care for her five grandchildren following the murder of their mother in 2017, eventually left the house because of the psychological trauma that remaining there could have on the children; the gruesome act had taken place in their home, which was under construction at the time.
The release stated that Trotman, having heard of the situation, decided to assist by constructing a three-bedroom concrete house for the family. The Department of Public Information reported that Allicock was presented the building in a simple ceremony yesterday, attended by Trotman, his wife, regional officials and AFC executives.
“Today, I have mixed emotions, but I feel good, really good. I have everybody around me and I am feeling really happy,” the woman said, fighting back tears. The Minister, in his remarks, said that he was happy they were able to complete the task and noted that the important thing is that Allicock and the children have a home where they can rest comfortably.
