A six-year-old child of Epsom Village, Corentyne, has died after being struck by a hire car along the Corentyne Highway on Tuesday afternoon.
Arianna Lowenfield, a student of the Eversham Primary School, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital.
According to information gathered, HC 2523, which was being driven by a Number 79 Village, Corentyne resident, was proceeding along the highway in the vicinity of the Eversham Bridge, when Lowenfield, who appeared from behind a lorry, reportedly ran across the road and was struck by the car.
The driver, 33, is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Lowenfield’s mother, Omadevi Bascom, said that on Tuesday at around 3 pm, she sent her daughter to a nearby shop. However, moments after, she suddenly heard a noise resound from the roadway.
“By time we fa reach out pon the road, the driver and me neighbour done turn back and gone with she a hospital but by time we reach a hospital, she dead,” the woman related.
The emotional mother added, “She always a one nice child to me, if me na get something to give she, she would please with what me give she, she na one rude child or nothing”.
Lowenfield has two other sisters, ages 12 and 1 year old.
